Aggreko Powers Ice-cold Avatar Film
Specialist generators from Aggreko Norway are being shipped to Greenland to provide temporary power for an American blockbuster film. It will be one of the most demanding projects of its kind ever seen.
“Greenland is an extremely hostile environment in winter. We have therefore equipped the two 125 kVA generators with special batteries able to operate securely and reliably in the sub zero temperatures there from now till next March,” says Frederik Dobisek, an Aggreko Norway engineer.
“Having to replace them if anything went wrong would be both time consuming and expensive, which is why we have put such great weight on testing and quality assurance,” explains Dobisek.
Aggreko Norway’s advanced technology has helped its customers solve problems, create opportunities and reduce risk in numerous extremely demanding projects.
“Not only do the two generators have to be incredibly reliable they must also not create any disturbing noise or other interruptions as they will sit very close to the film set. Which means they have to be more or less totally silent and vibration free. To ensure this, the generators have been sealed with a 10-15 centimetre insulation layer” adds Dobisek.
The film being shot is The Last Airbender, an action and adventure movie scheduled for worldwide release in summer 2010. It is a Paramount Pictures production and will be distributed by United International Pictures.
The equipment has been sent by truck from Norway to Denmark, for onward shipment to Godthåb on Greenland.
